Teaching

Parent/Student testimonials: "Alex is a wonderful combination of a talented musician who is actively rehearsing and playing in serious bands, and a student-centered teacher who guides kids towards genuine progress. Our son Henry's playing, rehearsing and general musicality have all soared under Alex's teaching, and we also credit Alex with supporting Henry's audition and acceptance into a selective arts high school. Alex's warmth, kindness and approachability are matched by his technical expertise and ability to get students to truly feel the music they are playing. We could not be more grateful to have met and benefitted from Alex's expertise." "Alex has been a wonderful teacher for my 10-year-old who began playing trombone at age 9. Alex’s lessons are engaging and well-tailored for my son. Alex has a genuine personal passion for music and he creates a positive and encouraging environment that has helped my son build confidence and enthusiasm for playing the trombone. I highly recommend Alex to any parent looking for a caring and skilled teacher. We are grateful for Alex’s lessons and guidance over the past year, and I look forward to seeing my son continue to grow under his tutelage." " "Alex was very kind and professional. He has an excellent demeanor for teaching"

Teaching Style

As I've developed my musical skills, teaching has become one of my most fulfilling experiences. I began giving weekly lessons in Brown County, Indiana, during my undergrad, and I haven't looked back since! Now, I teach throughout NYC both privately and as a Teaching Artist at the Harmony Program. My goal is to guide students through their musical education in a relaxed manner while providing a strong foundation to express themselves and learn musical concepts. Alongside musical instruction, young musicians in my studio are given the opportunity (and highly encouraged) to perform at a studio recital in the Spring.

Studio Policies

I strive to create a comfortable and nurturing learning environment, so I have established a few policies to ensure clarity:
-An initial complimentary 30-minute meet and greet is encouraged to help us get to know each other and set goals for our lessons. -Weekly 45 and 60 minute sessions are highly encouraged.-A dedicated weekly lesson time is essential, though I remain flexible with schedule changes as long as they are communicated in advance.-Automated payment plans are available and preferred. -I strive to make lessons as affordable as I can. Prices are calculated based off of length of the lesson, my experience performing and teaching, my time spent dedicated to refining my playing and teaching, and the current cost of living. -I teach in the Upper West Side of Manhattan, in your home, or other locations in NYC. If you have a different venue in mind, please let me know, and I’ll gladly accommodate.-I also offer lessons on Forte, providing high-quality online instruction; pricing may vary, so please reach out to discuss your needs.-Online lessons via Zoom are available at the same rate as in-person sessions.-Punctuality is important. I put great effort into being on time and appreciate the same from my students. If a student is over 15 minutes late or not home within that time, the lesson will be canceled at half the cost. That being said, I am extremely understanding of emergencies and last-minute changes if they are relevant and sensible.
